Radiometric Complex Traverse

Function

Measurements from a pier, platform or a ship in microwave bands (3.6 to 90 GHz) and at thermal IR frequencies to study the sea surface parameters and the ocean-atmosphere interaction.

Description

Radiometric complex Traverse consists of a set of microwave and IR radiometers, mounted on a automatic rotating platform. The PC-controlled platform provides observations along any specified angle path in the range from nadir to zenith and over 300° in azimuth. Multifrequency angular measurements allow estimation of the surface wave parameters, in particular the gravity-capillary wave spectrum and long wave mean slope, as well as determination of atmospheric parameters. Since 1999, the complex is used in a series of field experiments on sea surface remote sensing from a pier in Gelendzhik and a platform in Katsiveli (Black Sea).
