SOME INTMINS DETAILS

SCIENTIFIC AND EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES INTMINS

Each part of INTMINS has its own objectives. For MIR and INSPIRE scientific objectives are:

  1. Ground observation of audio frequency electromagnetic (EM) waves produced by electron and plasma generators in space.
  2. Studying wave-generation processes.
  3. Determination of wave propagation paths to the Earth’s surface.

The educational objectives of the INTMIMS are:

  1. Providing a link between science and technology by teaching the students in the classroom and outside.
  2. Giving the teachers a project that can be really done by their classes.
  3. Exposing the students exciting and accessibility of modern science and technology.

The scientific objective of INTERBALL using instrumentation on the INTERBALL-1 with its subsatellite and the INTERBALL-2, are:

  1. Observation of the phenomena that result from the interaction of the solar wind and the Earth's magnetosphere.
  2. Understanding the processes of these interactions.

By using the electron and plasma generators on the MIR and the scientific instruments on the INTERBALL the following scientific objectives can be attained:

  1. Studying the interaction between the ionosphere and the injected plasma and electrons.
  2. Understanding the dynamics of the injected artificial plasma in the ionosphere.
  3. Understanding the initial phase of plasma instabilities, the resulting EM emissions and their propagation in the ionosphere, magnetosphere, and atmosphere.
  4. Studying of wave particle interaction effects.
