ISTOCHNIK & ARIEL

ISTOCHNIK and ARIEL have mounted on the unit KVANT of MIR.
Effective parameters of the field source.

ISTOCHNIK

The electron gun is used as the field source (FS) of the ISTOCHNIK instrument on board of the MIR space station which radiates the electron beam with the energy W = 10 keV during the time D t = 4x10-6 s with the repetition frequency f = 10 and 140 and 103 Hz. The number of the electrons injected during one pulse is approximately 1.8x1013 which corresponds to the beam current of 0.7 A.

ARIEL

The plasma gun is used as the field source (FS) of the ARIEL instrument on board of the MIR space station. The plasma beams are generated by the ARIEL injector during the time D t » 200x10-6 s (accelerator one) or D t » 80x10-6 s (accelerator two) with the mean mass velocity » 4km/s (accelerator one) and » 15km/s with the repetition frequency f = 0.1Hz. The number of particles injected during one pulse is equal to » 1019 (accelerator one) and » 1018 (accelerator two). The beams by the accelerators one and two are injected perpendicularly each other.
