April 8, 1999

Mars Climate Orbiter (MCO)

There were no activities scheduled for MCO this week. The spacecraft team is now preparing a series of test cases designed as a comprehensive exercise of the "all-stellar" mode of attitude and rate determination, following identification and resolution of several software problems based on experience gained with the Stardust spacecraft, in its initial attempt at use of this mode in late February.

Mars Polar Lander (MPL)

The science instrument health check and calibration sequence executed successfully onboard MPL early on the morning of Wednesday, Apr. 7. All instruments powered up and performed their operations as expected. Return of the data set collected will be complete by tomorrow morning (Apr. 9).
