MARS SURVEYOR 98 MISSION STATUS

April 15, 1999

Mars Climate Orbiter (MCO)/ Mars Polar Lander (MPL)

There were no scheduled activities for either MCO or MPL this past week. The flight team is preparing a series of software patches for installation onboard both spacecraft which will better optimize the telemetry system's behavior given lessons learned from early cruise operations. Work also continues on the series of tests designed for verification of the software updates needed by MCO before transitioning that spacecraft into its "all-stellar" mode of operation, in which the attitude control system relies on star camera imaging for attitude and attitude rate determination.
