"X-ray observation of middle-aged SNRs"

Prof. Hiroshi Tsunemi  (Graduate School of Science, Earth and Space Science Osaka University)

Abstract:

We have studied the Cygnus Loop, a typical middle-aged SNR, in X-ray using the Asca and Rosat satellites.  The middle-aged SNR showing thermal emission is a good place to study the evolution of the interstellar matter.  The shell region, high density region, shows a abundance of the ISM while the inner region, low density region, shows a metal rich abundance originating from the ejecta.  Other middle-aged SNRs showing center-filled structure may reflect the thermal energy contained inside the SNR.  We have estimated the total energy of the SN.  Some other SNRs may be mentioned.
