" Dynamic
tides in exoplanetary systems and the problem of formation of 'Hot Jupiters' " P.B. Ivanov (Astro Space Center of LPI RAS) Abstract: In this talk I
would like to discuss the problem of excitation of normal modes in rotating
stars and giant planets on highly eccentric orbits as a result of tidal
interactions and an associated transfer of energy and angular momentum. I am
going to specify conditions on orbital parameters of such systems determining
their secular evolution due to tides, in particular, leading to a persistent
decrease of orbital eccentricity – the so called orbital circularisation, and
corresponding circularization time scales. The developed theory will be
applied to the problem of formation of 'Hot Jupiters' – giant planets having
quite small orbital periods of the order of a few days and orbital planes,
which can be misaligned with equatorial plane of the host star. |
